The Experience
Join us for a beautiful horse drawn woodland carriage ride around a private country Estate between Selby and York.
Your carriage awaits you on the outskirts of the park in Skipwith Village where you will be greeted by your driver Gordon and one of his carriage horses. Climb aboard your carriage and prepare to take in the views, make yourself comfortable as Gordon and the horses take you on a tour of the woodland tracks and country lanes within the estate. Lucky visitors may spot a glimpse of deer or buzzards while meandering through the trees.
There is an open top carriage for the warmer months and when the weather is wet or cold, there is a closed carriage with windows so you can still enjoy your ride. The closed carriage will have fluffy blankets and cushions and hot water bottles if needed.
Your package includes afternoon cream tea for two people with free unlimited hot or cold drinks, served in a private tea room or on your carriage.
Your carriage can hold up to 5 people at no extra cost - if you would like to add additional afternoon cream tea please contact us to upgrade your package accordingly.
Vital Information
Operating Hours:
Summer 7am until 9pm
Winter 11.30am until 2.30pm
Total weight limit per carriage is 75 .5 stone.
All horses have regular access to water at regular intervals with most of their work being in the shade.
The horses work less than the legally allowed 8 hours per day and their workload is scheduled so their daily work day is on average 2 hours. They do not work every day. They work a maximum of 2 to 3 days per week and very rarely consecutively. Every horse's fitness and health is considered and the horses do and will always come first.
The Weather
What if it rains? Each carriage has a rain canopy with side windows so you can still enjoy the views and your tour without getting wet. Hot water bottles and blankets are provided to keep you warm in the colder months.
This experience does not operate in high winds, ice or snowy conditions or very hot weather.
Extreme Weather Policy: Hot Weather
While heat may not be considered extreme in the UK, caution is taken when we experience a prolonged period of abnormally hot weather. We deem this to be when temperatures are consistently above 30 degrees for more than a few days. Under these heatwave conditions both horses and humans are at risk of collapse from heat exhaustion, so in this situation, consideration and care is taken and bookings may be cancelled and or rescheduled to the cooler times of the day.
Session Length
Carriage rides last approximately one hour.
Numbers
This voucher allows for your carriage ride and afternoon cream tea for two people. Up to 5 people can join you in the carriage, however there would be an upgrade fee to include extra afternoon cream tea for each additional passenger.

We advise passengers to dress warmly and bring gloves in the colder months.
