The Experience

After a short introduction and a safety briefing, ‘the ice will be broken’. An expert will show and explain you how to create a spectacular ice sculpture. The different use of the chisel provided to the team members is important to achieve contrasting unique effects thereby.

Then, you are on the spot! After you and your team have decided for a special design, you will make a drawing and then starting with the cutting and marking of the ice. These preparations are important to create your impressing sculpture. And then – here we go with the ice carving experience which is under professional guidance at any time.

Please note that you will definitely have the time to finish your piece of art. We know that creativity takes time.

Another highlight will be the prize-giving for the best design at the end of the workshop.

‘Art is fading, but art is always in the heads of people’ (HA Schult). This phrase is absolutely true, when we speak about ice sculptures. The lifetime of such a masterpiece can last from a couple of minutes to possibly months. But nevertheless this kind of art is not meant to last forever.

Ice sculptures are normally made of blocks which have to be free of undesired contaminants. Coloured ice blocks can be produced by several techniques, including the addition of coloured gels or sand to the ice. It is possible to create small sculptures by using a chisel or huge art works like ice hotels with the use of chainsaws.

There are even Ice Sculpting Festivals. The London Ice Sculpting Festival is the major exhibition of ice sculpting in the United Kingdom. The motto for 2012 was ‘Team Spirits and Winter Sports’.
